0 - An Introduction
Greetings everyone,
My pseudonym is Brass Dragon and I am the creator and founder of The Dragon Next Door. I created The Dragon Next Door to accomplish a few different things that I want to see happen. I was at dinner with a group of friends and fellow Game Masters when the topic of Dragon Magazine came up. By the time I was aware of what Dragon Magazine was it was already canceled but I have gone back and read several of them and I believe that it is a tragedy that his resource for both players and game masters is no longer being published. I had thought about doing something like this before but upon even the slightest mention of this I was encouraged to do it.
Why a Brass Dragon? The Dungeon & Dragon 2024 Monster Manual describes Brass Dragons as combating forces of repression and misinformation, helping people learn from the mistakes of the past. They relish in sharing knowledge and stories. I want to create a community of people who can tell their stories and share their experiences. Table top role playing games are nothing without their communities that support them and as such The Dragon Next Door is nothing without a community to stand behind and support it. I want this to be more than me. I want others to volunteer to write and create and share their stories. Every game master has different areas of the game where they thrive and I want to emphasize that by giving people a platform to be able to share their knowledge and experience.
Why The Dragon Next Door? The dragon in The Dragon Next Door of course is a reference to me (Brass Dragon) but it is slightly more than that. I also wanted to be a call back to Dragon Magazine. Plus dragons are just awesome. Next Door? I want this to be a community and have a group of people working together like a neighborhood. If you ever need help just ask your next door neighbor.
This experiment will largely be focused on Dungeons & Dragons as it is above and beyond the most popular game but it is also the game I have the most direct experience with. I would like to write more generic articles that fit other systems as well but that will not be every article. The system I currently have interest in and want to explore is Darrington Press’ Daggerheart. I have read their core book and I am intrigued but I have yet to have a chance to either run or play this system. With Jerrmy Crawford and Chris Perkins the Darrington Press team I have high hopes for the future of the system.
I want to emphasize this until it is exhausting. I am not going to be able to do all of this by myself. I want help. I want people to flex their creative muscles and create worlds and stories and mechanics together. From player and game master perspectives. I have a bunch of ideas built up but I know it will only be better if we work together to create and share our stories. If you have either an idea or want to join the team please reach out to me and we will go from there: www.thedragonnextdoor.com/contact
This is not what you should expect from every article. This is very much a session 0 equivalent of an article and just my introduction to this whole wacky and wild concept. Please enjoy the content we will produce and thank you for reading.
